Clark, Margaret
Published: 2010-09-08
Regina, SK

MARGARET CLARK Margaret Marnie/Meg Clark (nee Allan), for whom travel, whether real or vicarious, was an important diversion from daily routine, took flight to her final destination on the morning of 01 September 2010. It was Margaret's belief that she would one day spiritually reunite with her soul mate, her late husband and dearest friend, Don Clark. Present at Regina's Pasqua Hospital to see her on her journey were her daughter Robin Clark, daughter-in-law Pat Clark, grandchildren Michael (Robin's son), and Chris and Jenny (Pat's son and daughter) and her close friend of many years, Wilbur Heinrich. Her son in Vancouver, Michael Clark, unable to be with her, had just spoken with her on the phone. In addition to Don and her parents, James and Catharine Allan, Marnie was predeceased by Don's son, Cam. As well as those family members present at her leave, she is survived by the children and grandchildren who made her family, Michael Clark (Maureen Shepherd) of Vancouver, BC; Neville Clark of Winnipeg, MB; and Cathy Cloak (and Jessie, her daughter) of Calgary, AB. Always independent and strong-willed, Marnie believed indefatigably in the importance of family and equality for women. She loved jokes, crossword puzzles, knitting and her dogs, especially Sport, her Border collie. Repeated trips to BC, northern Saskatchewan and Ontario and a journey to Northern Ireland to see her mother's birthplace provided happy memories. But, it was camping trips in western Canada, the Yukon and Alaska with Don, and the rides on his motorcycle that brought her the most joy. In her retirement years, she volunteered with various agencies such as the CNIB, the V.O.N. and through the Regina Humane Society; she made visits with the dogs to cheer the elderly in care homes. She also knitted tirelessly for charities. The family would like to thank Dr. Moola, Dr. Clein and the various medical teams on 4A and in Palliative Care at the Pasqua Hospital. Special thank you to the many supportive friends and neighbors. Thank you, also to Speers Funeral Services for their graceful guidance and advice. Cremation is at Marnie's request, and there will be no service. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the Regina Humane Society, Box 3143, Regina, SK, S4P 3G7 or to Regina Palliative Care Inc., 4F-4101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, SK, S4T 1A5. A Come and Go Tea will be held on September 23, 2010 from 7:00 9:00 pm in Speers Family Centre, 2333 Cornwall Street, Regina. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park. 1514369

Dowkes, Gordon
Published: 2010-09-08
Ogema, SK

Gordon James Dowkes May 23, 1920 September 4, 2010 On Saturday, September 4, 2010, Gordon Dowkes' heartfelt wish to go home to heaven was granted. Gordon was born on May 23, 1920, in the south Glen Ewen district of Saskatchewan, the only son of Ambrose and Jessie Dowkes. He attended Kimberley School. As a young person he spent many hours on his horse exploring the ravines adjacent to the Souris River. He often spoke of herding cattle on the hills along the river during the depression years. As he worked with his father on the family farm he developed a keen interest in horses, buying and selling or trading to make matched teams. At age 16 Gordon made a decision that would shape his life. He became a Christian and sought to live out the principles taught in the scriptures. At age 21 he became a student at Millar Memorial Bible Institute, Pambrun, Saskatchewan, where he took two years of studies. During and following the war years he worked in Regina at Empire Auto. In 1947 Gordon married Elsie Easom. They moved to Gordon's home community of Glen Ewen where he worked for others while he and Elsie began to develop their own farming operation. In 1954 the family moved to the Edgeworth District, north of Ogema, to farm on the land where Elsie had been raised. True to his roots, Gordon still enjoyed his horses, cattle and goats. Phrases that Elsie often used to describe the true Gordon were: a well matched team decked out with fancy harness and collar tops, a contented herd, a clean summerfallow field, a completed harvest and 'a place for everything and everything in its place'. He was a man of order and routine even to the time of his passing. Gordon was predeceased by his wife Elsie in December of 2008. He is survived by daughters: Margaret Dowkes of Regina and Norma (Richard) Kirkby of Winnipeg, MB, grandson Cameron Kirkby of Winkler, MB, sister Bernice Douglas of Carnduff, brother-in-law Don (Alvina) Easom of Winnipeg, MB and several nieces and nephews and their families. The family expresses appreciation to Dr. Fong and the staff of the Weyburn Special Care Home for the care they gave to Gordon. The memorial service will be held Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, Weyburn, Pastor Doug Loden officiating. Lunch will follow. The interment of Gordon and Elsie Dowkes will take place at the Ogema Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Friends are welcome to join the family at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be directed to the Weyburn Special Care Home, the Memorial Fund of Calvary Baptist Church, Weyburn, or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are entrusted to RD Family Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, Weyburn, SK (848-0333 ~ 1-888-848-0333).
