KERFOOT, George Published: 2010-09-09 Moose Jaw, SK
KERFOOT George Edwin Kerfoot died at Extendicare in Moose Jaw on September 7th, 2010 at age 90. Predeceased by his wife Margaret, his brother Jim, sister-in-law Mary and nephew Brian, George is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Gordon and Brenda (Ziolkowski) and his daughter Marilyn. From the age of six, when his parents, Lorne and Hannah, left the homestead at Spring Valley, George lived in the Moose Jaw area where he farmed until his retirement in 1984. He truly enjoyed his work, and although deeply influenced by the Depression years of his youth, he often said he farmed during the best years. A friendly and outgoing person, George had a wide array of friends his neighbours in the Baildon, Old Guard and Tilney districts, and those he met through curling, square and round dancing, and golfing. Although he lacked a formal education, George loved to read and talk with friends over a cup of coffee about any topic under the sun. George had the good fortune to celebrate his 90th birthday with family and friends at a party held in his honour last winter at The Bentley. Marilyn, Gordon and Brenda are thankful that their dad had that opportunity to visit with many people who had been an important part of his life. The family wishes to extend warm thanks to the Home Care staff of the Five Hills Health Region, Extendicare and Dr. Luhning for their kind and compassionate care of George. A private service will be held at Sunset Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the CNIB, 2550 Broad St., Regina, SK. S4P 3Z4, which was so helpful to George during the ten years he struggled with macular degeneration. Romerman, Dennis Published: 2010-09-09 Calgary, AB
ROMERMAN, Dennis William (Bud) October 30, 1933 June 24, 2010 Bud left his family suddenly on June 24, 2010 while still living at home. On October 30, 1933 Bud started his journey in Regina, Saskatchewan. The only son of Bill and Mary Romerman, Bud was very industrious in his youth and at one time had the largest newspaper route in Regina. With an intense work ethic, Bud became a self-made businessman through the taking of numerous business related courses during his life. Bud met Geraldine Prosofski (Holdfast, SK) while working at BA Oil in Regina and married Gerry on July 14, 1958 and honeymooned in Disneyland. This trip was taken in one of Bud's favorite vehicles, a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible, which he purchased brandnew. In 1959 Bud and Gerry gave birth to Pat and in the spring of 1960 Bud and Gerry were transferred to Calgary, with BA Oil. In 1961 Bud and Gerry's family grew with the birth of Shelley and Calgary was truly home. Bud resided in Calgary for the remainder of his life. During his life Bud had a varied business career with work at Jack Carter, Hector Steel, Russel Steel and Geco Steel occupying most of his time. However, Bud's brief time as owner/operator of Little Sambo's Ice Cream Parlour helped him realize that his true passion for business came with ownership. With his experience and connections in the local steel industry, Bud finally realized his dream with the purchase of Three Star Steel (Calgary) Ltd. in 1985. Three Star was Bud's passion until 2001 when he retired. Sadly, his parents Bill and Mary, his wife Gerry and his sister Maureen Schmidt predeceased Bud. Bud is survived by his son Pat (Bev), daughter Shelley and grandchildren Curtis, Scott, Stacy, Chris and Dustin. Bud remarried in 1989 to Laura-Jane Davey of Arvada, Colorado and is also survived by LJ and members of his extended family. A private graveside celebration for family and friends took place on September 4, 2010. If friends desire, a donation in Bud's memory may be made directly to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta at www.heartandstroke.ab.ca. Tributes and condolences may be sent via email to romermap@shaw.ca 1514605

Smith, Kenneth Published: 2010-09-09 Davidson, SK
KENNETH EDWARD SMITH On the drizzly evening of September 6th, 2010 our world was drastically altered by the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, Kenneth Edward Smith. Ken was born May 23rd, 1936 at Davidson, Sask., the third child of George & Vera (Bender) Smith. He was welcomed by older siblings Lloyd & Shirley. Tragedy struck when George was killed in 1940, before the arrival of younger sister Sharon. Raised at Loreburn he attended Cherry Grove & Bright Schools. On Dec. 28th, 1959 Ken married Glenys Lockwood of Davidson. They started farming N.E. of Davidson which was home to their children Marlis, Clinton and Blaine. Family was the most important thing in his life. The arrival of the grandchildren was the icing on the cake. Many times Smithy was at the neighbours helping fix or build something. A card or curling game was always welcome. He was a quiet man with a dignity and a strength admired by many. Farming was so deeply ingrained in his soul, less than two weeks before his death he was doing what he loved, working on the farm. Recently when asked why he went to the farm each day his reply was because I love it. Ken is survived by his wife of 51 years, Glenys; Children: Marlis & Louis Duff, Clinton & Linda Smith, Blaine & Cheryl Smith; Grandchildren: Rychel & Reece Smith, Parker & Sydney Smith and Kenneth Duff. Ken is also remembered by brother Lloyd & Cecile Smith and sisters Shirley & Terry Brush and Sharon Wilkins & Partner Oran Reiman, as well as in-laws John & Elva Lockwood, Bob Lockwood and Jill & Dennis Knaus. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also hold the memory of Ken dear. Preceding Ken are his parents George & Vera Smith and in-laws Eugene & Reta Lockwood. The celebration of Ken's Life (Funeral Service) will be held at the Davidson United Church, Davidson, Sask. on Friday, September 10th, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Diane Eurig officiating. For friends so wishing memorials in memory of Ken may be directed to the Davidson Playground Equipment Project. Where is Heaven? Heaven's a place where people can go and taste pure water and see white winter snow. Heaven's a place that's good and clean Where you can breathe the air and the grass is always green. Heaven's a beautiful park where there are birds to sing and where you are safe after dark. Heaven is a place where you won't come to harm I lived there once I lived on a farm.
