Greenshields, Verna

Verna Jean (Salkeld) Greenshields Verna passed away August 31, 2010 at Oliver Lodge in Saskatoon, after a lengthy illness with her four children at her side. Verna was born August 3, 1928 to Rae and Effie Salkeld. She grew up on the family farm on the Cutarm Valley near Gerald, Saskatchewan. After completing her high school diploma at Spy Hill, she headed to Saskatoon's Normal School and became a teacher. Verna taught at Rocanville School before moving to Semans to teach school. There she met her future husband, Wes Greenshields. They were married July 9, 1954 and Verna settled into a farming life with Wes on the Greenshields family farm north of Semans. Besides her homemaking job, Verna was active in the community. She taught Sunday school at the Semans United Church, as well as 4-H. Verna loved reading and served on the local library board. Her love of music inspired her involvement with the Last Mountain District Music Festival. History and its preservation was important to Verna, and she was very involved in the compilation of the Semans History book, Always a Hometown, as well as the Semans Museum. Verna is survived by her son Jim (Lorna) of Saskatoon, granddaughter Erin(Ryan) Brimacombe of Saskatoon, great-grandsons Sam and Ike, granddaughter Michelle (Michael) Yakimchuk of Regina, greatgrandsons Adam and Theo; son Grant (Callie) of Semans, grandchildren Charlotte, Tom (Ashley) and Kathryn; daughter Patty (Tom) Burk of Taber, grandchildren Emily, Jon and Ethan; daughter Linda (Kevin) Ness of Saskatoon, granddaughters Caroline (Brenan) Smith and Lauren. Verna is also survived by brother Lloyd Salkeld of Edmonton and sister Lorraine Vinterlik of Punnichy and sister-in-law Dora Salkeld of Grand Forks, BC. The family is very appreciative of the kind and thoughtful care Verna received at Oliver Lodge. FUNERAL SERVICE will be held from Semans United Church, Semans, SK. Saturday, September 4th at 2pm. Halbert, Fern

CRYSTAL FERN HALBERT June 27, 1954 August 18, 2010 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Fern. After a courageous battle with cancer, her fight ended peacefully on Wednesday, August 18, 2010. She had never given up hope and remained positive right until the end. Fern leaves behind her two sons, Ryan and Norman and grandchildren Courtney and Ashton. She is also survived by her twin sister Faith and niece Kathy. Fern and Faith moved to Regina in 1980 to start their new lives. It was then that she started her 28 year career with Extendicare Sunset. Our mother selflessly devoted her entire life to helping her family and other people. Her two sons were her pride and joy, always putting a smile on her face well, almost always! Our mother's strong faith in God provided her with the strength she needed through her trials and tribulations of life. She was eternally hopeful, grateful, and most importantly, forgiving of all. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:30 7:30 p.m. on Friday, September 3, 2010 in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina. SCHIAZZA, Angelo It is with great sorrow that the family of Angelo announces his passing on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at the age of 79 years. Angelo is predeceased by his wife, Flora; parents Adele and Cesere; brother in law Bartolomeo. Angelo will be lovingly remembered by his son Guido (Heather) and their children Emily, Lucas and Cara; his siblings Yolanda of Italy, Maria of Regina, Guido (Emma) of Italy, Paola (Maria) of Italy, Gino (Hilda) of Abbotsford, BC and Dino (Irene) of Regina; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Angelo came to Canada in 1957 and met Flora in Regina. They married and started working in the construction industry. He enjoyed working in the garden and spending time with his family. JIM NEE JANG YEE It is with sadness the family of Jim Nee Jang Yee announces his sudden passing on Sunday, August 29, 2010. Jim was predeceased by his parents and one brother. Left to mourn his passing are his loving wife, Wai King; children Terry of Calgary, AB; Ping of Surrey, BC; Jason of Surrey, BC and William (Joyce) of Regina and granddaughter Jade. He is also survived by a sister as well as several nieces and nephews. Jim moved to Regina in 1953 from China, where he started his own grocery business. He worked as a chef for the Hotel Saskatchewan for many years until his retirement. LINDA ANNE SNELL (nee Doucette) March 11th, 1957 August 29th, 2010 It is quite an experience to for us to cope with the sudden passing of Linda at Emma Lake at the age of 53. She is survived by husband Ken; sons, Mike and Mark (Kelly); grandchildren, Colton and Katherin; brothers, Rene (Cathy), Doug (Rhonda); sister-in-law, Lynn (Rick) Drake as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Ray and Kathy Doucette; brother, Michael; by parents-in-law, John and Marlene Snell. Linda was born in Pouce Coupe, BC and lived her life to the fullest. Her first love was to Ken, their family, and her animals, as well as she devoted her time to individuals with Intellectual Disabilities. Linda found peace and happiness at the cabin at Emma Lake where she spent all of her summers. She was fanatic about the color pink, so in her memory please wear something in this color in her memory for the services. Linda had many friends whom she has left a lasting impression on. She was small in size but mighty in determination. She will be truly missed by all. Vigil for Linda will be held on Thursday, September 2nd at 7:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 3rd at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Father Kevin McGee as the celebrant. Both services will be held at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church (3339 Centennial Drive).
